Hair colour blunders

Many ladies and gents dye their hair, whether it is in the privacy of their own homes or at the local salon.

Please DO NOT ignore on the instructions where it states that you must do a skin test, this is to make sure that you are not allergic to the products ingredients.

I was that person who thought that a skin test was just a waste of time…how very wrong I was. I now have to visit my doctor monthly to get what I can only describe as potent paint stripper to apply to the red itchy patch of scalp. Because I didn’t do the skin test I was totally unaware that I am in fact allergic to the main ingredient in Dark hair dyes.

Note to self – Read instructions is a massive must!!!!

Skin Irritation

Many people suffer from skin irritation on a daily basis, from applying fragrance make-up, lotions and creams. This can result in the face turning red, stinging, itchy blotches. Many people are asking themselves if the product is actually working or not. We should all take great care in what we are applying to our faces; no one wants to end up with blisters or rashes that could leave scars. Look for skin-care products that are labeled ‘for sensitive skin’. Also one’s that contain anti-inflammatory botanical s like aloe, also containing soothing. Avoid using facial scrubs if your skin is very sensitive as this can cause irritation too. You must always discontinue using any product that causes any form of irritation to your skin.

Get Tanning

We all want that beautiful holiday skin when we go out to parties etc….well I found that the only way to get this is using St Tropez and exfoliating regularly for smooth glowing silky looking skin.

It’s such a good product that even the guys are getting into looking beautifully bronzed all over tan.

My top tip has to be to always use latex gloves when applying the mousse; nobody wants to reach for a drink in a club to then notice that you have what looks like white gloves on!! If you feel you are not confident enough to tan yourself at home then why not treat yourself to a salon treatment.

Dye your own eyebrows!

Instead of spending money at my beauty salon every 4 weeks I spend around 20 minutes on my own beauty routine for my eyebrows. It saves me money and I can top up whenever I choose without having to make an appointment!

All you need is a pair of good tweezers (I find the slanted edge tweezers the best) and a pack of “brow and lash dye kit” you can find these in most supermarkets and chemists (they are usually around £6.00).

To start I first exfoliate and cleanse my whole face paying particular attention to my eyebrows.

Next step is to pluck starting from the inside and working towards the end, I tend to just pluck stray hairs and keep to the natural curve of my eyebrow.

Lastly mix your dye using the instructions on the packet, I leave for about 5 minutes, or you could leave it longer depending on how dark you want to go, then simply wipe off.

Have a go yourself!

Our bodies contain all sorts of toxic metals which need eliminating. These metals can damage our health, organs and tissues and can play a part in provoking cells in our body to mutate, leading to the deadly disease that is Cancer.

Toxic metals include lead, mercury, nickel and many more. There are products available which help to eliminate these metals and can be purchased from most health stores.

Organic Food

Organic food has become a lot more popular and more and more people are opting to purchase local products rather than food that they are unsure where it has come from or where it has been made. Organic food is made using less or no synthetic materials at all during production, and is less damaging for the environment.

Research on the nutritional value of Organic food varies, with some saying that food from Organic farming is more nutritional than that of conventional farming and others saying that there is in fact, no difference.

The cost of Organic food can put people off buying the products, with some prices being 40% more expensive than conventionally produced products.

Spring is here

We have been having really nice weather recently and I think everyone is getting hopeful for the summer and hoping it is going to be a hot one for once. But although a nice tan makes you look all healthy and glowing just remember how bad sun exposure can be for your skin. What I prefer to do it to get a tinted moisturiser with SPF protection all rolled into one. The tinting products make you have a sun kissed look in your face all day and at the same time the SPF agents are protecting your face from any permanent damage. Try to go for an organic product though as it is less likely to contain harsh chemicals which usually do more harm than good.

Organic Toothpaste

Organic toothpaste – is this the new way forward??
I have heard that harsh foaming agents and whitening products in big brand toothpaste can actually be doing more harm than good. Whitened teeth often feel more sensitive and foaming agents can damage your gums by being too harsh. So I decided to check out organic toothpastes to see if there was any difference.
You can buy quite a large range of products from the internet but the website I thought looked the best was greenpeople.co.uk. They are made with organic products and essential oils, Vitamin C and apparently
offer natural protection against bacterial growth
They do not contain sweetners, fluoride or foaming agents.
Let me know if you are a fan of organic toothpaste and how it compares to regular products.

Exfoliating Regime

With summer literally round the corner it is time to start thinking about your summer skin regime. Exfoliating is a must especially if like me you like to keep up the fake tan regularly. I am a fan of the cheap exfoliation mitts and shower gel. But there are lots of products out there. I usually concentrate on my legs and face. Exfoliating your legs can make them look slimmer and more toned, I really love Clinique’s Sparkle Skin Body Exfoliator. It is quite expensive but makes your legs feel seriously smooth. I then run an exfoliated mitt over my legs too just to make sure I’ve gotten rid of all the dead skin etc. They recommend a loofer but I prefer my mitts. Clinique also have a similar scrub for your face but I prefer Body Shops Vitamin E facial scrub as I use the rest of the range daily for my face. I have also just started using the small round scrubber for my face, really good at getting rid of small spots!

Wilkinson Sword Quattro

The weather has been fairly encouraging so I’m starting to think about my summer holidays. And with that thought comes thoughts of bikinis and bikini lines!
The Wilkinson Sword Quattro for women is amazing and helping keep your bikini under control. If you are afraid of waxing or epilating the Wilkinson Sword Quattro is a great alternative. It is a shaver on one end and a trimmer on the other end and is a must have girly gadget.
Price at about £9.99 it is a handy fairly inexpensive grooming appliance. There is a promotion on a the moment for the summer with a new carry case for your trimmer for when you pop off on your holidays!
